Looking forward to the new exhibition at Magasin 3 with Maria Nepomuceno. It only proves that textile is one of the most important art forms in the international art world today. Fun to see a brasilian artist in Stockholm as NTAS is visiting Brazil soon, ready to get inspiration and meet interesting artists and visit places. The exhibition opens on the 23rd of January.

Cassette Gallery opens Jan 9th 2010. Our aim is to be a platform for contemporary art inspired by diy-culture and punk aesthetics, and to be a space for exhibitions focused on artistic process, live shows, music and performances.
Cassette gallery is run by NTAS at Färgkontoret, Plan 4.

NTAS has received a scholarship from Estrid Ericson and is going to Brazil! We're going to study modernistic architecture, in particular Oscar Niemeyer, and is travelling to Rio de Janeiro, Sao paolo and Brasilia. Look out Brazil!

I always start with a very precise shedule of the project I'm working with and I always believe that I'm able to keep the process organized and follow the plan. But I always lose it and end up in chaos with Dr Pepper, but the expectations of what the result will look like is what motivates me right now. It's all very physical. /F

Tal R has a big show at Magasin 3 in Stockholm at the moment. Naive, abstract, paintings, collages, sculptures and drawings. With an explosion of colour. It takes your breath away. There are several textile sculptural work in the exhibition, patchwork mostly, interesting work in this context. But as always, textile work is more okay and is more in focus in a painting context, and when a man is the artist.

To work with textile art projects is to have to start with the material.Understand that it's not going to work out in the way you imagine. You start with an idea and then you immediately have to start working with the material, and then it doesn't work out and you have to change the idea, you try again, and the alterations slowly takes you closer to the final object. The process and the hand craft is very meditating and extermely stressing, depending on your mood of the day and how close the deadline is. You have to eat regular meals or else everything fucks up all the time.

Utgångspunkten för projektet har varit Bruce Chatwin, författare och äventyrare som reste runt i Asien och Afrika och skrev fantastiska reseskildringar, mest känd för I Patagonien. Efter hans död upptäckte man även att han tagit tusentals fotografier, som fokuserar på geometriska mönster och färgkombinationer och arkitektoniska konstruktioner på sina resor. Detaljerna i vardagslivets Asien och Afrika blir abstraktioner. I Chatwins bilder finns textila element som får nya betydelser genom förmågan att gå riktigt nära och göra detaljerade utsnitt ur verkligheten.

TENT OVER består av två delar. Första delen är en workshop och performance som äger rum i 24 timmar innan vernissagen. En hög med tyg, gaffatejp, häftklammer och verktyg är utgångspunkten och en idé om att skapa ett fysiskt och mentalt temporärt hem för NEW TEXTILE ART SCENE, med nomaden, tältet som metafor och trygghetssymbol i en föränderlig värld. Under workshopen har vi suttit runt brasan och berättat historier och rummet fick växa fram runt oss. Vernissagen och den sociala gemenskapen blir då verket blir bebott. En kort fysisk upplevelse av installationen och rumsligheten är förgängligheten i verket.

Frida-Li Lövgren lives and works in Stockholm as a textile artist. Graduated from Konstfack College of Art, Crafts and design in BA Textile in 2009. Frida-Li makes large textile installations and hand-dyed quilts and patchworks.

Anna Ekholm lives and works in Stockholm as a textile artist. Graduated from Konstfack College of Arts, crafts and design in BA Textile in 2008. Anna machine knitted UFO sculptures in neon colours for her exam project Space is the Place. Finished a public commission for Rosenhaga förskola, Technopolis, Skövde council in 2009. Participated in a group exhibition "Fem smyckar Skövde" in Skövde Art Museum in 2009 with Andreas Eriksson, Roland Persson, and Jenny Palén. Works mostly with knit, acrylic glass and coloured lighting.
